Remember that incredible, unique sound that was San Antonio radio in the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s? There was that "nothing like it before" music that rocked us, but more importantly, there were those incredible air "personalities"…who literally blew us away! These giant talents did more than spin "stacks of wax." They created a whole world of entertainment that we could be a part of at the flick of a switch or the press of a button. Real, live DJs, who chose their own music, created imaginary sidekicks, made us laugh, and filled our days and nights with companionship and joy.
With the passing of such great air personalities as B. Bailey Brown, George "Super" Cooper, Howard Edwards, Charlie Van and others, we are beginning to lose tales and memories of those glorious San Antonio radio days that only those who "were there" can relate. To preserve as many memories as possible, we must act now!
The purpose of San Antonio Radio Memories
is to provide a clearinghouse for those who would like to share and preserve
their personal San Antonio Radio Memories for future generations. Our mission
is to provide a repository for those memories, to collect the stories,
and eventually, compile them into book form for everyone to enjoy.
Our ultimate goal is for the book to be
published and made available via major booksellers, such as Amazon.com.
NOTE: All profits from the book will be donated, through known reputable
organizations, for scholarships to qualified individuals who want to pursue
a career in Radio Broadcasting.
If you worked in San Antonio Radio between 1950 and 1980, we want to hear from you! These years will be the initial focus of the book. To share your memories:
Send your story via e-mail (send all the stories you want, but please put each into a separate e-mail) to: mystory@sanantonioradiomemories.com. You can also record your story and e-mail the audio file to the same e-mail address or you can provide your memories on cassette tape, CD, or other media and mail to:
