Up, Up And...

Rick Reynolds, KONO Program Director, was looking for someone to do a live broadcast from a hot air balloon as part of an Alamobile remote for a McDonald’s grand opening.  It sounded interesting to me, so I volunteered.

The day of the broadcast, Rick became very apprehensive when he found out the balloon basket was truly a wicker basket.  I wasn’t worried, but Rick didn’t settle down and regain his composure until I was back safely on the ground.

I loved the view.  However, I quickly encountered a conflict with the purpose I was in the air.  Every time the pilot fired up the burner to keep the balloon in the air, the roar was deafening and no one could hear what I was attempting to broadcast.  It took both coordination and timing, but we finally worked things out so I would only broadcast between burns.
